Awards for commitment to kids in care

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Two construction workersOrganisations and companies which help young people who have been in care make the step into the world of work have been acknowledged for their work.

Lincolnshire County Council and Birmingham Marriott hotel received the From Care2Work Quality Mark in recognition of their commitment to helping young adults make the transition from being in care to working for a living.

The National Care Advisory Service (NCAS) issued the awards, with the council acknowledged for its work to help secure employment to young people leaving care.

The local authority runs a scheme every three months which allows young people to gain some on-the-job experience while also learning about the demands of the world of work.

The council already runs an apprenticeship scheme for children leaving care, and it hopes to increase places from the current number of 14.

Martin Hazlehurst, NCAS national manager, said: "The From Care2Work Quality Mark recognises the work that employers and local authorities are doing to ensure that young people leaving care get the best start possible in the world of work.

"We would like to congratulate those who have been given the award and encourage others to contact us."
